       Muthamizharignar Kalaignar informed that "several welfare boards were formed to safeguard the livelihood of labourers and welfare assistance was being provided to them" while speaking at the All India Cine workers conference on 09.10.2009. At that conference, he announced that a new Cine Workers Welfare Board would be formed for the welfare of Cine workers, including small screen workers, after considering the requests of the South Indian Artistes Association and the Tamil film industry.

       In continuation to his announcement, the Cine Workers Welfare Board was formed with the Minister for Information and Publicity as the President, the Director of Information and Public Relations Department as Member Secretary, and official and non-official members.

       So far, 39 associations of the Tamil Nadu Film and Television Industries have been enrolled with 26,792 members.

       Financial assistance under various categories viz., education assistance, marriage assistance, maternity assistance, abortion assistance, spectacle assistance, assistance for death due to accident, assistance for natural death, funeral assistance, etc., have been provided to the members of the board who have participated and contributed to the Film and Television industries, and the details are as follows:

Welfare Schemes

1.  Financial Assistance for Education (For Two Children only)

  • Girl Children Studying 10th std – Rs.1,000/- 
  • Students who passed 10th std - Rs.1,000/-
  • Girl Children studying 12th std - Rs.1,500/-
  • Students who passed 12th std - Rs.1,500/-
  • Regular Under Graduate students for each Academic Year - Rs.1,500/-
  • Regular Under Graduate students with hostel facility for each Academic Year – Rs.1,750/-
  • Regular Post Graduate students for each Academic Year - Rs.2,000/-
  • Regular Post Graduate students with hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.3,000/-
  • Technical Education Under Graduate students for each Academic Year - Rs.2,000/-
  • Technical Education Under Graduate students with Hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.4,000/-
  • Technical Education Post Graduate students for each Academic Year - Rs.4,000/-
  • Technical Education Post Graduate students with Hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.6,000/-
  • I.T.I / Polytechnic Students for each Academic Year - Rs.1,000/-
  • I.T.I / Polytechnic students with hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.1,200/-

2.  Marriage Assistance - Rs.2,000/-

3.  Maternity Assistance - Rs.6,000/-

4.  Abortion/Miscarriage Assistance - Rs.3,000/-

5.  Spectacles Reimbursement only for members - Rs.500/-

6.  Financial Assistance in the event of accident at shooting spot

  • Death due to accident - Rs.1,00,000/-

  • Disability due to accident (Based on the nature of disability) - Rs.10,000/- to 1,00,000/-

  • Financial Assistance for Natural death - Rs.15,000/-

  • Financial Assistance for Funeral- Rs.2,000/-

       Applications have been received from 122 members seeking various welfare assistance from 01.01.2022 to 31.12.2022 for an amount of Rs.7,75,500/- (Rupees Seven Lakh Seventy Five Thousand and Five Hundred only)

       All the applications received are considered by the Welfare Board and the eligible beneficiaries are selected.
