       As per the guidance of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, an announcement was made by Hon’ble Minister for Information and Publicity in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, during the Assembly session 2021–22 on 06.09.2021, regarding the formation of a Journalist Welfare Board.

       Accordingly, a Journalist Welfare Board has been constituted and the funds are determined to provide welfare assistance for various welfare schemes.

       The Hon’ble Chief Minister has honoured the working journalists in Tamil Nadu by announcing them as front line workers for the first time, as a recognition to the selfless work rendered by them during the COVID pandemic.

JOURNALIST WELFARE FUND

       To generate revenue for Tamil Nadu Journalist Welfare Board, Government has ordered to deduct 1% of Advertisement charges to Tamil Nadu Journalist Welfare Board from various advertising agencies.

TAMIL NADU JOURNALIST WELFARE BOARD MEETINGS

       Tamil Nadu Journalist Welfare Board meetings have been conducted five times to discuss the various welfare schemes for Journalists.

TAMIL NADU JOURNALIST WELFARE BOARD MEMBERSHIP CARD

       Tamil Nadu Journalist Welfare Board Membership Applications have been sent to all District Information and Public Relations Offices and the Press Release Section in Chennai. The filled-in Applications are being received by this board and necessary steps are being taken to print the membership cards.

WELFARE ASSISTANCES FOR THE FAMILIES OF THE JOURNALISTS

1.  Financial Assistance for Education (For two children only)

  • Girl children studying 10th std - Rs.1,000/-

  •   Students who passed 10th std - Rs.1,000/-

  •   Girl children studying 11th std - Rs.1,000/-

  •   Girl children studying 12th std - Rs.1,500/-

  •   Students who passed 12th std - Rs.1,500/-

  •   Regular Under Graduate students (Day scholars) for each Academic Year - Rs.1,500/-

  •   Under Graduate students with hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.1,750/-

  •   Regular Post Graduate students (Day scholars) for each Academic Year - Rs.2,000/-

  •   Post Graduate students with hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.3,000/-

  •   Regular Technical Under Graduate students (Day scholars) for each Academic Year - Rs.2,000/-

  •   Technical Under Graduate students with hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.4,000/-
  •     Regular Technical Post Graduate students (Day scholars) for each Academic Year - Rs.4,000/-
  •   Technical Post Graduate students with hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.6,000/-

  •   Students studying ITI/ Polytechnic (Day scholars) for each Academic Year - Rs.1,000/-

  •  Students studying ITI/ Polytechnic with hostel facility for each Academic Year - Rs.1,200/-

2.  Marriage Assistance - Rs.3,000/-

3.  Maternity Assistance - Rs.6,000/-

4.  Abortion/Miscarriage Assistance - Rs.3,000/-

5.  Spectacles Reimbursement for members only - Rs.500/-

6.  Financial Assistance for natural death - Rs.50,000/-

7.  Financial Assistance for funeral - Rs.5,000/-

       The Journalist Welfare Board Committee has been constituted with the Minister for Information and Publicity as the Chairman, seven official members and six non-official members to scrutinize the applications and to extend assistance to the members.
