Following the keen interest and strenuous efforts of Muthamizharignar Kalaignar, Tamilarasu magazine was started on July 1, 1970, by combining all the Government magazines which were till then publishing welfare schemes of the Government and the Government policies separately. Now, Tamilarasu is published every month both in Tamil and English, on behalf of the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Tamil Nadu. It has been the print media of the Government of Tamil Nadu for the past 53 years, as it compiles the policies of the Government, all the welfare schemes implemented by the Government for the poor and needy people and the achievements of the schemes.
Speeches of the Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, speeches delivered by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in various Government functions throughout Tamil Nadu, Review meetings, Field Inspections, Press notes, Speeches delivered by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in various programs, Announcements made by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu under Rule 110 in the Legislative Assembly, schemes announced by all the departments, all department-related announcements, detailed articles on district development works, success stories and interviews of beneficiaries, who had benefited from Government welfare schemes across the State, Brief notes on freedom fighters, Tamil scholars and National leaders, general information from literature etc., are compiled and published in the Tamilarasu monthly magazine, so that people from all walks of life can read and benefit.
Also, the Government headed by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is about to complete two years, so far 23 special publications, including 6 special issues, have been published through the 'Tamilarasu'.

In particular, among the above special publications,
(1) A special issue titled “Dravidian Model Government in the view of Scholars and eminent personalities”,
(2) “Tamil Nadu Day July 18 Special Issue”, to celebrate the day on which a resolution was passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by Perarignar Anna to rename the State as “Tamil Nadu”,
(3) A special issue titled ‘The Centenary of the Educational Revolution’, summarizing the importance of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme, a grand scheme conceived by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,
(4) Following the announcement made in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu that the life history of freedom fighters, especially those from Tamil Nadu will be published, a book named ‘V.O.C. 150th Birth Anniversary Special Issue’, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Kappalottiya Thamizhan,
(5) A book named “Bharathiyar Centenary Memorial Issue” to mark the death centenary of Mahakavi Bharathiyar - were all released by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
(6) The first ‘Ilakkiya Malar’ book was released by the Muthamizharignar Kalaignar in 1997. With a view to follow the tradition and protect the Tamil literature, to exemplify the traditional literature, culture and social development of Tamil Nadu and to encourage hundreds of Tamil Scholars, writers, historians, poets and artists, pieces of work were received from them and they were compiled as a special issue named ‘Ilakkiya Malar 2023’, and the same was released by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 04.02.2023. Hereafter every year, Ilakkiya Malar will be released during the month of Thai.
Following the announcement of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, steps are being taken to bring out a book on the Role of Tamil Nadu in the Freedom struggle both in English and Tamil.
PAMPHLETS
Life history of Freedom fighters, Tamil Scholars and Political Leaders were brought out in the form of pamphlets and distributed for public use. In this connection, the biographies of Kappalottiya Thamizhan V.O.Chidambaranar, Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathiyar, Nadigar Thilagam Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan, facts about Valluvar Kottam, facts about India International Trade Fair 2021 and Film Bazaar 2022 Goa were printed and released.
POSTERS
Five different posters explaining the achievements of the Government under the title “Thalai Nimirum Thamizhagam - Peru Sollum Nooru Naatkal” were printed and distributed to all the districts and advertised at prominent places for the people to view.
OTHER PUBLICATION WORKS
Apart from the work of 'Tamilarasu' monthly magazine, a pocket size telephone directory, pamphlets, posters and application forms of other sections such as, Memorials section, Exhibition section, Journalists Welfare Board, Cine Workers Welfare Board, etc., are being printed and distributed.

‘Tamilarasu’ monthly magazine is widely read by the public, readers in Government offices and Government libraries and political party leaders. For the benefit of the new readers / subscribers, to register and to renew their subscription, www.tamilarasu.org website has been introduced. It is also possible to register through the website and Government e-service centres and receive the 'Tamilarasu' monthly magazine by post.

THE SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY OF TAMILARASU MONTHLY MAGAZINE
Following its successful journey of 53 years on July 2023, the monthly magazine 'Tamilarasu' (Tamil and English) has seen a significant increase in the total number of subscribers since the assuming of office by the Government led by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 07.05.2021.

Also for the first time in the history of 53 years of Tamilarasu, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the first special issue for sale at the 'Tamilarasu' arena, in the book fair held in Chennai on 06.01.2023, intending to make everyone buy, read and benefit from the special issues compiled and published by the 'Tamilarasu' Press at a concessional price.
Tamilarasu Press will continue to sell special issues at concessional price with the aim of increasing the reading ability of the younger generation.
